Emperor of Austria

Francis I of Austria

Austria 12 February 1768 – 2 March 1835

In 1814: Allied sovereign; Napoleon’s father-in-law

He was the father of Marie-Louise and the grandfather of the King of Rome. Francis had good dynastic reasons for wanting a regency rather than a Bourbon restoration, but in the end he went along with his allies.
