La Barrière de Clichy. Défense de Paris, le 30 mars 1814
Horace Vernet, 1820
Marshal Moncey, on horseback, directs the National Guard at the Clichy toll-gate as Paris falls. It was painted under the Bourbon Restoration, and its Bonapartist sympathies are usually given as the reason it was kept out of the 1822 Salon. Vernet showed his rejected works in his own studio instead. It is now in the Louvre.
